On the toilet

By

As is often the case in my life, things don’t always go to plan. Take, for instance, my grand idea to colour-match paint with the dove grey Toto toilet in our water closet.

I kinda-sorta had a vague idea of choosing the perfect shade of “greige” which wouldn’t clash with our towels and the curtain valance, as well as bring out the colours in the wallpaper I had purchased for the vanity / dressing area in our primary suite. Then I was going to finish the room off with a collage of family photos on one wall.

Except, when the greige paint was dry, I decided it didn’t look right. At all. It looked like a shade of lavender. Which was very pretty, but it was just wrong, as you can see in my little YouTube video here. Not the right colour for this room. Was I going to have to fall back on my old standby and simply paint the damn room black?!

(Don’t get me wrong: I would not have a problem with painting the entire house black, except I’d get a bit bored with it.)

Since I only had two rolls of the wallpaper for the dressing area, there most likely wouldn’t be enough to use it in the WC… but what if I did one small section of wall in there, and paint the other walls black? That might work. I decided to take a chance.

And thank goodness I gave it a go, because the result is absolutely smashing. WE LOVE IT.

I shall reveal the dressing area to you in my next blog post.

Lots of love,

M xo

BEFORE: Another dull beige room in our house, about to get The Maximalista Treatment!
AFTER: The wall of love — a sweet little gallery of our fave family pictures. PS it REALLY is that bright in here, now! I promise I didn’t use a filter: the glass and white frames made a huge difference.

Sewing project:

I made the little pelmet / valance in our WC using Rhombus by Clarence House, in Fog. (Straight-line sewing on my machine is about the extent of my sewing talents!)

The sweet lace net curtain is from Holland. I only bought one yard of it, which is perfect for this tiny window. I ADORE the little windmill pattern!

Some of my smaller pieces of Lladro on the skinny windowsill: the angel represents my late big brother, whereas the little girl and baby boy represent me and my little brother. The lavender is freshly picked from my cutting garden.
Painting attire. Ready to get dirty!
