Knowing how lonely and bored Mr Maximalista would be whilst I was off gallivanting in Las Vegas, last week, I graciously left him an extensive Honey Do List to keep him occupied during my absence.
I am nothing if not thoughtful for his mental wellbeing.
Top of the list was to build a faux oven hood for our kitchen. Thanks to Mr Pinterest.com, my brain was filled with ideas for the 10’ high oven wall, the upper part of which is basically a useless space, gasping out for some visual impact.
The Hoopoe Leaves wallpaper definitely helped with the visual interest, as well as the books and co-ordinating adornments.
Even so, the space still felt lacking a little je ne sais pas. Which is where the faux oven hood came in. We used some wood that we already had in the garage, and we ordered two more packets of those awesome stick-on tiles I was raving about in a previous blog.
One pack was enough to complete the faux hood, and I used half a pack to finish cladding the side of the peninsula.
In all, we used four packs of stick-on tiles (with 3+ sheets leftover… watch this space!) for the backsplash, peninsula, and hood, costing a total of $132. This was considerably less than one roll of the Cole & Son wallpaper!
I have to say, this must be one of the cheapest DIY facelifts I have ever completed — we love how it turned out.
Lots of love,
M xo
