In itinere / Latin / on the journey, while traveling
Having spent the last couple weeks entertaining house guests, taking them sightseeing to everywhere within a 6-hour radius around my home in central Colorado (look out for my upcoming blogs about our tours!), most normal people would hibernate for a few weeks afterward, in order to recover from the hyper mental-stimulation, not to mention bloating from all the terrific meals consumed.
Ergo, I am classifying Mr Maximalista as a NOT normal person, since HIS idea of relaxing — after bidding a fond farewell to my mother and our family friend — was to book the two of us into a resort in Breckenridge, for a long weekend away in the mountains. How jolly awful.
Following my tearful parting with Mummy Dearest and our FF on Tuesday afternoon, I did admittedly spend all of Wednesday in my pajamas. Most of that day was spent curled up either on the sofa or in bed, whereupon I read two entire novels back to back, and gluttonously devoured approximately one third of the treats my mother had brought over from England. No judgements, please: I was in a delicate state.
Therefore when, on Thursday, Mr Maximalista surprised me with his sweet plan to get away, I confess that my initial reaction was reluctance: I was worn out, and genuinely had no intention of wearing anything other than pajamas, or cashmere loungewear if I was feeling fancy, for the next five days. Furthermore, I most definitely had no intention of showing my face in public until at least next week.
Yet here I am, writing my blog in a lovely condo at a luxury ski resort up in Breckenridge, Colorado. Lounging on the fifth floor, with breathtaking views of the tree-covered mountains. Who am I to refuse such sufferings?
Clearly Mr Maximalista knows my needs better than I know myself, since I have spent these past few days doing a lot of writing, uploading photos to my Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as reading for several hours beside the pool.
But mostly, I’ve been reflecting on the things I want to write about… as well as brainstorming on the shopping page for my website, which I hope to launch in time for Christmas. You lucky things, you.
Lots of love,
M xo
PS the two novels I read on Wednesday were Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, and Discontent by Beatriz Serrano; currently I am reading another novel called The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams [below]
