A trip down Memory Lane…

By

Happy Halloween to all of you lovely people!!

Just a quickie, today, as my kitchen is in complete upheaval, and I need to crack on before I lose the will to live.

Last week, one of my blogs was about decorating for Halloween. Today’s blog is about dressing up for Halloween.

Full disclosure: this Halloween I shall be dressing up as a slobby Englishwoman in overalls, decorating her kitchen. Hairstyle inspiration: Gordon Ramsay.

Lame, but that’s my life now.

When my daughter was little, we used to have so much fun at Halloween. There were parties at school, and we always went Trick or Treating around our neighbourhood.

Traditional Chinese pajamas, and a Native American lady (no offense meant)
Mermaid and old lady
Witch, Raggedy-Ann, and myself going incognito… I don’t know who I was, that year?!

The Top Banana usually wore a costume that we purchased. One time, she wanted to be Rapunzel. We made her costume from scratch… it was a real PIA for both of us, so we never did that again!

That PIA Rapunzel costume, when we went Trick or Treating with
some of our dear friends, back in Wisconsin

I generally dressed myself up as whichever female celebrity was hot, that year. My favourite costume was Amy Winehouse, whom I adored. She died a few years later, which was such a tragedy.

Paris Hilton with Tibetan child
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – dressed up as Martha Stewart, whom I admire tremendously. She had recently been incarcerated when this photo was taken.

For many years, one of my oldest and dearest friends in Wisconsin has hosted a huge Halloween party. I don’t mean a party that is just a piss-up with a bunch of drunken fools passing out in a pool of vomit. No. This is an elegant event, with proper stemware, catered food, and our friends making a real effort with their costumes.

As you know, I don’t need an excuse to pull on my fancy togs, neither do I need much prompting to pull something together for a costume party.

Here are some of my faves from the past:

Mexican, Spice Rack, and Cinderella
Scooby Doo, Daphne, and Velma

Be safe out there, this Halloween, and try not to overdose on Trick or Treat sweets!

Lots of love,

M xo
